India all out for just 105 runs on the first innings bowling
A terrific day for Australia! After being put under the pump yesterday, the Aussies have roared back in some style today. Steve O’Keefe has stolen the limelight as he ended with his career best figures – 6/35 and did all the damage. Their pacers, Hazlewood and Starc did set the tone and all-in-all it was a collective effort from them. That helped them gain a lead of 155 and would be really happy to end the day on top. The lead has now swelled to 298, which in itself is a massive one, given the dodgy nature of the wicket.
The Indians will rue the fact that they lost their last 7 wickets for just 11 runs. They picked 4 Australian wickets quickly after that but just couldn’t create much of an impact as they dropped Steven Smith thrice which only added to their misery. In return, the Aussie skipper made the most of it and is unbeaten on 59. Matt Renshaw gave him good support and together they stringed a crucial 52-run stand but the southpaw fell prey to a loose shot. Mitchell Marsh walked in next and is slowly getting his eye in.
So, the Aussies are clearly on top and the hosts would need something miraculous to happen if they are to make something out of this Test. A target in excess of 300 has been chased only once in India, so this should already boost the morale of the Australians. How much more will Smith and co. feel is enough to have a go at the Indians again? Let’s see what day 3 has in store for us.
